According to Engadget, the courier weighs just over a pound and is expected to function as a “digital journal.”
In addition, the device is powered by a Tegra 2 processor and runs on windows mobile 7 series.
“As we’ve heard, the interface appears to be pen-based and centered around drawing and writing, with built-in handwriting recognition and a corresponding website that allows access to everything entered into the device in a blog-like format complete with comments,” wrote Engadget’s Nilay Patel.
“We’re also hearing that there will be a built in camera, and there’s a headphone jack for media playback. Most interestingly, it looks like the Courier will also serve as Microsoft’s e-book device, with a dedicated ecosystem centered around reading.”
Patel added that the Courier’s launch date was currently set at either Q3 or Q4, while pricing details remain unknown.
This is all very interesting news, however, the release of the iPad is still more than 6 months away. The most likely release date will be November of 2010 just in time for the Christmas rush. It should be noted that while the specs look pretty decent, it still seems to be an overpriced e-reader with a camera. I for one am probably not going to be buying it given my opinion of microsoft products. This will definately compete with some of the products in the market, mainly the iPad, but who really needs a tablet?
If I wanted an E-reader there are much more better ones. Epecially the kindle or Sony’s spanken new E-reader. E-Reader Reviews
